We, Tim De Dobbeleer and Sam Van Brempt were getting a bit bored from the waiting in El Chalten, Patagonia. We missed the first tiny window on the day of our arrival and it took roughly 10 days before the weather forecast showed another promising drop of the ever blowing wind. Around Chrishmas 2012 we teamed up with Slovenian Domen Kastelic for an attempt on the Supercanaleta of Fitz Roy.
A long hike into the range brought us underneath the West-side of Fitz Roy. The weather was good except Fitz Roy was covered in a snowy cloud. Next morning we decided to take a rest day because the gully was filled up with fresh snow. On 26 December we started early at night reaching the difficulties at first light. We made good progress but when we needed to exit the couloir towards the ridge we were slowed down. Making some route-finding errors, facing a lot of loose snow on the ledges and upcomming weather made us decide to get back down.
