In May 2010 Joris Van Reeth and Sam Van Brempt travelled to the central Alaska range. After 3 weeks of acclimatization, on the 7th of June 2010 they started climbing the Cassin Ridge on Denali/McKinley.
Unfortunately, after climbing only 250 meters Joris took a deadly fall in the Japanese couloir. Upon today we still don’t know the exact details of what happened. With help from another climbing party Joris was brought back down to the base of the route.
Because of the weather circumstances it took 4 days before a helicopter could rescue Sam. Upon today Joris’ body hasn’t been found and is still resting underneath the Cassin Ridge.
